Inuyama Hiking

thread
Inuyama Hiking
On Saturday I went hiking in the hills north of Inuyama castle. The weather was cool but comfortable and the view from the top of the final hill was very clear.

As usual, the people we passed were very friendly & always greeted us. But! Did you know Japanese hikers have their own special greetings?

Instead of "Ohayogozaimasu" (Good morning), they say "zai-MAS!", & instead of "Konichiwa" (Hello), they say "chi-WA!".

I think this is because:
- they don`t have much time when they are passing each other
- they`re trying not to laugh at each other`s strange fashion

When I was a junior high school student,I belonged to the trekking club.
I went trekking near Osaka…Mt.Rokko,Mt.Kongo,Mt.Katsuragi…a month.
When I went trekking,I said "Konnichiwa!" to the people, too.
But I sometimes said "Chiwa〜!",
because I was very tired,I said so!

I think this is reason why they feel a troublesome thing.Or,Japanese language is often shortened when Japanese people speak.Maybe they are only shy persons.
