Do what others do not like to do

thread
Do what others do not like to do
Vol. 6

You can choose to do a job that everybody wants to do or choose one that everybody does not want to do. I am not talking about dream jobs like “Professional Athletes”, “Movie Stars”, “Singers” and so on. I am also excluding any job that requires specialized education like “Doctors”, “Nurses”, “Pilots”, etc. - I am talking about ordinary jobs.

When growing up, you may not have wanted to be a Garbage Collector, Undertaker, Septic Tank Maintenance Technician, or Janitor. However, some people choose or are forced into doing these types of jobs that people usually do not like.

Why?

There is something called the “3Ks” in Japan. (1) きつい Kitsui (2) 汚い Kitanai (3) 危険 Kiken. Which can be translated to (1) Hard, (2) Dirty, and (3) Dangerous. Based on those three factors, people stay away from these types of jobs, but society needs these positions filled. In reality, the jobs that people do not like often pay better and are much more secure than the jobs that people like.

When you look for a job… better yet, when you are looking to start a new business, you should look for what people really need instead of what you want to do. If people need your work, you can make a living. It is the choice I made when I started my company … find the needs and fill them … the hard way.

Dreamersi Server Down due to the system trouble

thread
Dreamersi Server Down due to...
At around 4:30pm on April 7th, 2020, it was reported to me that email was not working. Soon after, I began receiving reports that our web servers were responding very slow. This is what went on behind the scenes for the next 9 hours.

We started searching for the problem, Internet traffic was unusually high which caused a delay in everything we did. At first we suspected that something went wrong with the DNS server - we have 3 DNS servers. We shut down No. 1 hoping it would result in No. 2 and No. 3 resolving the issue. Unfortunately, after this was done nothing was improved.

Next, we suspected some kind of attack was happening. This is called a DDOS attack targeting our DNS server. We have 2 primary Internet lines coming to our datacenter. We found 1 suspicious IP that was connecting to our DNS, we blocked that IP using the Firewall but nothing changed. We asked our backbone provider to block the DDOS attack, however they did not see much traffic coming into our datacenter. The traffic problem was inside, not from the outside. So we began checking the health of the Router, Firewall, and Switches.

At the same time, we decided to look at our internal servers. Is it possible that an internal server was attacking our DNS server? By this time we had brought in most of our technical staff to see what was happening. At this point, we still had no idea what was happening.

Some of our customers in Japan were waking up to see that their email and web were not working. We had been receiving many calls from customers in the US, and now we had people calling us from overseas. We were not able to announce the progress or problem to the outside world because our datacenter was not operating.

I had decided to just sit in my room and let smart people figure this out. We had people working at our HQ Network Monitoring Center as well as our Seattle Datacenter. It had already been over 7 hours since this issue started. Since then, our staff had narrowed the problem down to the DNS servers. We then started rebuilding a new DNS server. At the same time, 1 of our best Server Engineers started to work on the down DNS server.

He noticed the configuration file on the DNS server was blank, which caused all of the traffic to be unresolved and bounce all over the computers. He was able to modify the configuration file with the appropriate information. When he did that, we started to see traffic slowly normalize and people were able to access their web servers. Emails began to be delivered, but it took another 2 hours to go back to normal.

We started investigating why the configuration file went blank. The report came back but it was too technical for me to understand, but I am sure our people will not make same mistake again. Now we know what it means to be an essential service. There are so many people and businesses relying on us to provide service.

I am sorry for what happened. If you allow us to take care of your Internet web and email, we will make sure we provide the best service we can. This is a brief explanation of what went on during the outage.

Record your COVID-19 websit...
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) worldwide pandemic has caused a lot of changes to our day-to-day lives. As you may have seen on PSPinc.com as well as many other websites, businesses of all shapes and sizes are sharing information on how COVID-19 has impacted their business and operations.

While written releases share information, spoken words can often provide a warmer message that we can all use in this difficult time. Click It Audio was designed for that very purpose. Uploading an mp3 audio file to the system will generate a simple code allowing you to embed an audio player on your website.

Using the power of Click It Audio you can then embed a simple audio player into your website. Click It Audio is free-to-use for 3 unique embed codes. If you need more than 3 embeds, premium plans are available for purchase.

You can visit Click It Audio online to sign up for your free account.

Our partners at Woodstock Media Group currently have a special offer - for $65 (15 minutes of studio time) they will record your message and remotely deliver an audio file directly to you via email that can be uploaded to Click It Audio. Company Website

thread
Company Website
Vol. 05

There are many types of websites around the world, but I have been saying that creating a long marketing message is bad. People do not have a long enough attention span to read lengthy text and messaging. The same can be said for websites. If your website is long, no matter how useful the information is, people will not spend the time to read through it.

You need to understand what people are looking for when they visit your website. Here are some general things people look for:

(1) Your location
(2) Your email address, telephone number or contact form
(3) Business hours
(4) Product information
(5) Company history / background
(6) Employment information

You should be careful how you place “Product Information” on your website, this is where it can get out of control. You want to explain what your product does and write a lot about it. This approach will make your website very busy. I recommend you write a summary or introduction on your company website and create a separate website for the product.

This way people who need more information about a product can get it without making your company website huge. There is no rule saying that you must have everything under 1 website. Many Web Consultants tell you that having multiple websites is not good for SEO (search engine optimization). That may be true but do you want a Google Crawler to visit your website, or have people visit and understand it? I think you should organize your website by having a core company website and satellite websites for your key products.

History of PSPinc’s Logo

thread
History of PSPi...
Vol. 4

Today let’s talk about the history of the PSPinc logo. A company logo gives people a first impression of what that company is like. It also tells a vivid story of the company’s philosophy.
PSP logo now

This is the current PSPinc logo. At first glance, the meaning looks a little bit vague, however, you will find the sloped spelling of PSP after taking a closer look. It was designed on purpose to convey the philosophy and history of PSPinc.

PSP logo before

This was the original logo from when PSPinc was first founded, which has a more intuitive design. Back in the late 1990s, PSPinc had been providing services targeting the Japanese market through retailers. It was requested by the retailers that the products be more like their branding, so the logo was changed to the current one and then placed on product packaging. Since that time, PSPinc’s President, Kenichi Uchikura, has held the philosophy that work should always be carried with pride and responsibility, even if it is not seen by other people.

After Mayumi Nakamura took the position of President in 2009, the「」were added to the logo to convey the meaning of “outside-the-box”. With the hope that more original ideas can surpass existing restrictions.

A quick fun fact about the company color of PSPinc. The idea of choosing a brick red color came from the university Kenichi Uchikura had previously attended.

All of that being said, you can learn about PSPinc by how the company logo has changed over the years.
