Problem with Microsoft Server Update

On April 16th, the Windows update caused all email service definition to be erased completely causing the service to shut down. We can not trust Microsoft to fix their own problem without introducing more problems.

I will try to replace Microsoft components with our own starting next week.

I played a round of golf

I played a round of golf yesterday from 10:30 to 3:00pm. We were lucky that we missed all that rain.

I shot 96. Yesterday was not one of my better days. The air was really heavy and the ball did not carry very far. Also, entire golf course was aerated so the greens were in bad shape.I three patted more than 10 times.

As a operator of multiple data centers, we consume more electric power than most other companies. We are really concerned about that. So to reduce the CO2 emissions and be green, we are

(1) Using "Green Power" from Puget Sound Energy
(2) Reduce electric consumption by using the natural air to cool our servers
(3) Retire old servers in 3 to 5 year period.

It is not alway easy, but we are try our part. Also, we host 35,000 companies email servers using little over 400 servers. That is 98% reductions in server foot print.

Apple has decided to ship my order one piece at a time instead of consolidating everything into one shipment. Although the order was FREE SHIPPING, it is a waste of money. They could have given me a discount of $20 or $30 if I wait until everything is ready for shipment. I would have waited.
