May

While we were driving at night on Ishigaki Island, we saw an animal crossing the road. I was able to get out and take a photo before it escaped.

Can you guess what it was?

I think it is a saimiri, a kinf of monkey.
I saw the photo on a web site. It is cute. But I don't know what kind of animals live in Ishigaki Island.
I thought they were taillights of a car when I saw the photo at first. So, did they a few monkeys.

Our guess is a hermit crab.  

Crabs and turtles sometimes become confused by lights and lose their way.

No, not a monkey, Michiko.

And not a hermit crab, Mum & Dad, but close...

It`s a kind of terrestrial (land) crab. There are various types of terrestrial crab. I don`t know the name of this species.

Maybe it was going to the beach to spawn, which I read they do about this time of year.
