Upgrading to Google Analytics 4

thread
Upgrading to Google Analytics 4
If you’re a small business owner or a digital marketer, you’ve probably seen the top banner in Google Analytics telling you that Google Analytics will be phasing out Universal Analytics (UA). Additionally, it tells you to switch and set up Google Analytics 4. Simply put, Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is a new version of Google Analytics that uses machine learning. By mid-2021, users already started switching over to GA4, less than a year after Google first announced it in October 2020. In fact, 60% of marketing professionals already updated their Google Analytics account by May 2021 according to databox. And an additional 22.7% said they hadn’t done it yet but planned to.

So, why the switch? Other than Google phasing out UA by July 2023, GA4’s use of machine learning allows it to offer new and attractive features. It’s also important to note that GA4 doesn’t use historical data, i.e., all the data users have built up over the years. But it can use data it’s gathered over time, so switching over to GA4 sooner is better than later. That way, it’ll start accumulating data in the new system before the old one gets shut off. Plus, it means you won't be starting from scratch when setting it up after support for Universal Analytics ends. And GA4 will improve over time, resulting in more accurate results when using its new predictive modeling features.

Google Analytics 4 Features

someone pointing a pen towards a tablet with google analytics open

GA4 uses a more sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI), which allows it to provide better insights into understanding the data moving forward. And it uses historical evidence it’s gathered over time to predict future outcomes. But GA4’s use of machine learning is continually evolving so it’s likely that it’ll introduce more AI tools in the future. The hope is that GA4 will eventually allow marketers to identify which users are more likely to convert based on specific website interactions. Other additional features GA4 offers include funnel analysis, tree diagrams, overlapping audiences or segments, and many more.

For users with multiple Google Analytics properties, it can be difficult to track individuals across multiple properties. And if you’ve ever used Google Analytics in a high-traffic area, you’re probably all-too-familiar with the loading bar, which can take several minutes to load. Google has made the process much faster by redesigning it from the ground up instead of relying on what was a 10-year-old data mining process. Additionally, tracking visitors’ overall customer journey as they travel between multiple channels is much simpler with GA4’s “Information Streams” feature.

To switch, all you have to do is connect Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4 in the admin panel. Or you can switch by replacing an embed code. If the embed code is particularly old and doesn't reference gtag.js in it, the code will have to be replaced.

If you need any help in switching over to Google Analytics 4, please don’t hesitate to 800-232-3989 or emailing us at support@pspinc.com.

The Benefits of Online Forms

thread
The Benefits of Online Forms
Online forms are largely used by businesses for a variety of business and marketing purposes. They’re much more modern compared to paper forms and simplify and optimize the entire process for businesses. Online forms are generally cloud-based, meaning that the data’s instantly digitalized and stored in the system. This gives business owners instant access to accurate, verified, and up-to-date information and makes it easier to process this data further. Online forms also greatly reduce cost while optimizing for efficiency because it’s no longer necessary to physically print, mail, store, and organize them. It also decreases the possibility of misplacing, burying, or even destroying the data, which is a very likely occurrence when dealing with paper forms.

Marketing Purposes of Online Forms

a contact us form on a tablet

Other than simplifying and digitalizing processes on the administrative side, online forms can be great for marketing as well. Much like other digital marketing efforts, it’s easy to track how well online forms are performing and adjust them as needed. When placed on your business website, it can be a great way to drive lead generation, serving as an email newsletter opt-in, or an alternative for users to contact your business.

Other than that, you can get feedback directly from your customers about your company’s offerings and/or their overall experience on your website. For example, after purchasing a product/service, customers can review the product/service they bought or answer questions about the checkout experience, both of which can be done with an online form. After that, businesses can even create an automated and personalized response to people who filled out the form. Because it’s an online form, the responses are immediately sent after they’re filled out and submitted.

Online Form Builders

someone holding a tablet open to an empty online form

As great as online forms can be for your business, creating one can involve a lot of coding, which isn’t a capability all business owners have. This is exactly why PSPINC created InforMakers, our intuitive form builder. With InforMakers, you can easily create, customize, and embed as many online forms as you need. Once created, you can customize the messages users get upon completion. After embedding and placing it on your site, you can view all your form submission data and export it into a tidy CSV file for your records. InforMakers is just $8/month. Or if you’re one of our Dreamersi customers, you can get it for free in addition to your web and/or email hosting.

Things to consider when deleting web pages

thread
Things to consider when deleti...
Web builder tools like WordPress and WebdeXpress are powerful. They grant website owners the power to make website updates themselves without the need of a Web Developer. As a great man once said - “with great power comes great responsibility.”

Adding or editing content and pages is one thing, but what happens when you need to remove pages from your website? You just press the delete button and poof it's gone - right?

Yes, but did you consider the consequences of removing content?

Remember, SEO (search engine optimization) is based on providing good quality content. Search engines are actively crawling websites and web pages for new content to serve users who make specific searches.

When you remove web pages, you have now removed a valid link to useful content on your website. What this means for users, is they won’t be provided with content relevant to their search. For search engines, they see that you are serving them a broken link, which will hinder your SEO efforts.

What should you do when you need to remove content from your website?

Deleting pages from your website is fine, and inevitable over time as you look to update and make changes. A website is never “finished,” it’s an ongoing and evolving element, like your business itself. To properly remove pages from your website you should set up 301 redirects.

According to Wikipedia, a 301 redirect is defined as follows:

The HTTP response status code 301 Moved Permanently is used for permanent redirecting, meaning that links or records returning this response should be updated. The new URL should be provided in the Location field, included with the response.

To summarize, when you remove a web page, you must update a configuration file on your webserver to ‘permanently redirect’ any traffic that comes to the removed page to a different relevant page. Over time, as search engines continue to crawl your website, they will recognize that a page has been removed, and no longer provide it as a search result.

While the exact format of your redirect will vary from site to site and server to server, the principle will remain the same. You can always consult the Web Developer for your website should you have questions.

If you have a website that needs updating and you don’t know where to start, let us know. We have experience not only in designing and developing websites, but we can help make sure the changes made are SEO-friendly.

How to keep users coming back to your website

thread
How to keep users coming ba...
Attracting new visitors to your website is important, but also important is giving users a reason to continue to visit your website. In order to gain a following for your website, it’s important that you are offering value. Determining that value will vary from website to website based on its purpose.

Below are a few ways that you can keep users coming back to your website.

Offer weekly pricing and promotions

If your website exists to support a retail location or you sell online and have unique promo codes, this is an easy way to keep people coming back. If the only way for them to get discounted pricing is to visit your website, you have added value.

Write useful blogs about related areas of expertise

When you regularly blog about areas relevant to your business you are providing a useful resource for customers. Be it handyman solutions, tech tips (as is our case), or any number of things - knowledge is power. Giving that power to your customers is added value for your website.

It is also important to create “evergreen content” when you are creating blog content. “Evergreen content” is content that doesn’t become outdated with time. It’s fine to blog about topical information, but just be sure to also add a regular mix of “evergreen content” that people are likely to search for on search engines. This will help you gain some organic search traffic, which contributes to that ‘new visitor’ traffic. Which you will then work on converting into returning traffic - right?

Build your social media following

Keeping people coming back to your website is one thing, but people habitually visit social media daily (even hourly). Think of your social media following a bit like a customer database, and your corporate page as a way of reaching those customers. Posting important information and links to your website on social media allows you to be seen even when they aren’t on your website.

Now which social media platforms to use will vary depending on your business, and the types of customers your business caters to. Find out where on social media your customers spend their free time and focus on those platforms.

--

Those are just a few ways to get more traffic to your website. There are likely many others that are more niche towards your business or website purpose. If you have any questions or want to consult with us on specific actions for your business you can call us toll-free at 1-800-232-3989 or contact us online.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMAKERS

Hello, this is Ken Uchikura from Tokyo. Yes, I am on a business trip to Tokyo. I left Seattle yesterday on a direct flight to Tokyo/Narita on a Japan Airlines flight. I used to fly JAL many years ago but they stopped flying to Seattle so I moved to Northwest Airlines which is now DELTA. For a few years, I used Air Canada and Asiana Airlines but both do not have direct flights to Tokyo. This is the first time I have flown JAL in many years. I found a way to save money on JAL Business Class to Japan. If you are interested, please email me and I will tell you my secret.

Sorry for the long introduction. Today I would like to talk to you about InforMakers. This is software we created to help our customers create custom web forms for their web sites. This is the software we used to create contact forms on many websites. It is easy-to-use and is very secure. If you are a Dreamersi web hosting customer, InforMakers is already a part of your system. You can create your own custom web form or you can ask us to build one for you quickly and inexpensively.

If you are not a Dreamersi customer, InforMakers is available as a SaaS (Software as a Service) to you as well. If you would like to know more about web form creation and operation, please contact us. We would be happy to help make your web site interactive.

Your Website: The Look and Feel

thread
Your Website: The Look and F...
The look and feel of a website tells you a lot about a company. If you visit a website with a bunch of text, low-resolution images, too many ads or pop-ups, what kind of impression does it give you? You might start to feel like the whole thing is spam, or low-budget – and all of that reflects back on the business. Your website is your first impression for most, so make it a good one.

First things first, image quality needs to be light, bright, clear and professional. If you are using your own photos, the subject should be back-lit. Watch for shadows or unnecessary things in the background of your pictures. Don’t use any pictures that come out grainy or pixelated.

Consider using stock images for free or for a small price. If you have specific things that need to be photographed, it might be worth hiring a professional photographer to do the job. It’s said ‘a picture is worth a thousand words,’ and if that’s true, well, depending on its quality, a picture can really sell something or turn people off.

Keep plenty of white space within your site. Don’t over-clutter with images or banner ads. Don’t have too much tiny text. If someone needs to put on readers to read your content, you’re doing it wrong. And finally, pick one or two easy-to-read fonts you can use throughout your site.

Just remember, keep it simple, keep it organized, and if at the end it feels like a site you would feel comfortable browsing, you’ve succeeded. Stay with us for a few more final tips next week.
