The 5 Biggest Tech Trends of 2021

thread
The 5 Biggest Tech Trends of ...

In the past, we've described the tech industry as creative, innovative, and ever-expanding. And 2021 was no different. With the global pandemic, more people relied on technology for practically everything. People stayed home and worked remotely (when they could). So ensuring their devices are well-optimized to increase efficiency is crucial. So as we close out the year, let’s take a look at the biggest tech trends of 2021:

1. Faster connectivity

holding a phone that shows a loading screen that says loading please wait

We’ve already seen how this trend’s gotten popular over the past two years. Even for non-tech people. The promise of 5G from large phone companies is definitive proof of this. More than that, tech companies are combining 5G broadband cellular networks and the Internet of Things (IoT). And that combo allows them to speed things at an exponential rate. When combining 5G and IoT, it also enables faster download and latency (time it takes to retrieve data) times. And that includes loading times across larger distances. And with everyone working remotely, it’s crucial. Faster connectivity increases an organization’s overall efficiency, which leads to increases in monetary gain. Not only for businesses but also for the overall GDP.

2. Cloud-based platforms

Cloud computing’s already been a big thing in the last few years. But it contributed to transforming the digital space as we know it in 2021. We use it so much now, it's practically common practice. Cloud computing not only increases cyber security but also contributes to revenue. In fact, a Deloitte report claims the cloud service revenue will reach $354.6 billion by 2022.

3. Cybersecurity

clicking on a button that says security

Now that everyone’s work and home lives are melding, there are a lot of concerns over cyber security. Especially in conjunction with heavily target ads and listening devices like Amazon's Alexa. After a while, it makes people feel constantly watched and listened to. Now, if someone gets hacked, their personal data isn't the only thing at stake. There's also a high possibility that sensitive business data is intertwined in there somewhere. It’s no wonder why VPNs and other cyber security measures are so popular now. Even PSPINC’s developing its own password management software, Pass Wizard, which is currently in its beta stage and free for users to try.

4. AI Evolution

ai robot hand reaching up

The truth is, AI’s actually been around for longer than most of us realize. However, it only recently became popular because cloud computing made it possible for machines to take in an immense amount of data. Using AI, we’re now able to easily detect patterns, interpret, and interact with all kinds of data, including text, images, videos, and even audio. With it, businesses are able to improve customer satisfaction, increase productivity, and lower expenses.

5. Business model transformation

subscription box for beauty products

In terms of tech services like software, customers used to just buy it. Then, when it came time to update it, they’d just buy the next version of it. Now, tech companies (PSPINC included) utilize a subscription model where developers continue to develop, maintain, and update their programs. And this subscription model isn’t just true for the tech industry, we’re seeing it everywhere. Streaming platforms (Spotify, Netflix), eCommerce (Amazon Prime), curated boxes (Birchbox), meal-kit providers (HelloFresh), the list goes on. While both the traditional purchase and subscription models include multiple purchases over time, subscriptions streamline the entire process. For the tech sector, it guarantees a high-quality product through constant updates. But for everyone else, it ensures the customer stays with the same company instead of buying a similar product elsewhere.

Online Brand Optimization and Consolidation

thread
Online Brand Optimization and ...

As we close out 2021, we would like to look back at a major project we undertook this year. We've referred to this as the “PSPINC brand consolidation” project.

Background

PSP logo

As an online technology company, we are constantly evolving. To do this, we're always looking for ways to optimize and level up our products, services, and websites. Mid-year, we discussed how we can continue to drive meaningful traffic to our sites and services.

At PSPINC, we offer a large number of products and services, each with its own unique name and domain. This has allowed us to cleanly separate one product from another. But it did introduce challenges we were looking to solve.

Brand Recognition Confusion:

With all services being uniquely branded with a product name and domain, it made it difficult for people to identify that these services were products of PSPINC.

Fragmented SEO Efforts:

With so many products, our efforts to optimize our marketing and drive traffic were very challenging. We were attempting to advertise and grow so many different domains, which made it difficult to have a singular focus.

Solution

girl wearing orange headphones looking at two large monitors with coding and typing on a smaller laptop

While we have many services that still operate independently (Bloguru, Japanese-Online, Denrei, ClockLink), we decided to consolidate all our public-facing product websites into web pages on pspinc.com.

This would solve both of these challenges by:

  • Clearly defining PSPINC as the company, and the product beneath that. Since all product pages would have a pspinc.com domain and the PSPINC branding in the top left.

  • Allowing us to focus the bulk of our marketing efforts on the domain pspinc.com. Since these product landing pages would all be on the same domain, it would make our processes much more streamlined.

  • How We Did It

group of people gathered closely together to look at a laptop

This was a large and ambitious undertaking. We broke this down into three phases to best ensure we could iterate and release enhancements regularly.

    Phase 1 - Redesign pspinc.com

Consolidating our product sites into product pages wasn’t as easy as building out new pages in the existing PSPINC website. We went completely back to the drawing board to come up with an updated sitemap, wireframes, and mockups. This allowed us to data-mine and structure this with our goals in mind.

From there, we developed all of the existing pages for pspinc.com with the new design, linking all of our products to the existing product pages. This allowed us to release the new design while leaving the existing product sites as is. Helping us mitigate very complex deployments over 14 domains.

Phase 2 - Build product pages under the new pspinc.com

The next step was to consolidate our existing product sites down to simple product pages on pspinc.com. We did all of this on our development server, building them out one at a time. This was followed by thorough testing by our Designers and QA Testers.

Phase 3 - Deploy new product pages and redirect traffic from the old websites

The last phase of the consolidation project involved deploying these new pages. Specifically, we needed to remove the old website on the original domain and redirect traffic to the new URL.

For SEO purposes, it is extremely important that you set up permanent redirects for all old pages that no longer exist. It is a way for us to tell search engines that the old page is gone, but there is a new page with the content they are looking for. That way they can update their search results and we don’t run the risk of users not being able to find the pages.

Thanks to our team of extremely talented Designers, Developers, and QA Testers we were able to complete this major project this year.

If you have any work you need done on your website but don’t know where to begin, please let us know. We have the experience and knowledge to help not only make the changes but define an efficient and organized process to make your online dream a reality!

PSPINC What's New Newsletter Vol. 95 "Running a company with just a cell phone"

thread
PSPINC What's New Newslette...

Recently, some people seem to be doing work related to their companies using only their cell phones. Cell phones are indeed more convenient than PCs when it comes to email, chatting, and social networking. However, even if you look at the back-office functions required for business, such as accounting, many tasks cannot be done on a cell phone.

As is the case with us, we don't carry our PC with us when we go out for work unless there is a good reason or a business trip. Therefore, I believe that cell phones are a convenient and indispensable tool, but I don't feel that they are a replacement for PCs.

How do you use your cell phone? Do you use your cell phone for shopping? Is there any research that you do on your cell phone? As the functions of cell phones improve, the ways we use them will change as well. We believe that we need to target cell phones in our future development.

Apache Log4j library vulnerabili...

To our valued customers:

We have investigated whether the Apache Log4j vulnerability was affecting our products and services. As a result, we have determined that most our products and services do not use the Log4j library. Therefore they are not impacted by this issue.
Our legacy Parcom server was utilizing an installed plugin containing this library. That plugin has been patched, and there is no impact to Parcom services.

PSPINC What's New Newsletter Vol. 94 "Satisfaction with your website"

thread
PSPINC What's New Newslette...

Does your company have a website? Is it easy to understand what your company does by looking at your homepage? Do you receive inquiries from visitors to your website? On a scale of 1 to 100, how would you rate your website? I'm sure many of you are wondering if there is something more you can do.

I think the best way to evaluate the usefulness of a website is to see if it is generating new business for the company. How many people are visiting your website? How long do they stay? Where did the visitors come from? Did they come from search engines, social networking sites, or by typing your web address into their browser directly?

What are you doing to attract people to your website? Do you use blogs, social networking sites, or post on YouTube? A website is not an advertising medium, so it is not enough to create a website to attract people. The website needs to be advertised to a large number of people in various ways.

The setup of a website also needs to be designed in such a way that it can easily attract people. A completed website is not the end of the story. The content of the website needs to be updated to attract repeat visitors. Only through these actions will people start to come to your website.

If you have any concerns about your website, please contact us at Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. We offer a full range of services from web design, production, hosting, management, updating, and marketing. If the performance of your current website is not receiving an ”A” grade in your mind, please give us a call.

5 Benefits of Social Media For Your Business

thread
5 Benefits of Social Media For...
Most of us have seen and used social media. If you are reading this article that is almost a certainty. We use it to share vacation photos, life updates, birthdays, anniversaries, cat photos, etc. However, there is a business application for social media. If you aren’t considering the benefits of social media for your business, you may be short changing yourself.

Today we are talking about 5 benefits of using social media for your business - let’s get started!

Smiling business woman

Make human connections with your customers

In most cases, your website is there to present information for your customer. From there, they will make an independent decision based on what you are offering. Unlike a traditional brick and mortar store, you have limited opportunities to engage with your customers.

By using social media, you have the opportunity to converse with your customers in comments and direct messages. In many cases this will allow you to offer superior customer support and really let your customers get to know you.

Woman with megaphone

Bring attention to your brand

The more spaces that users see your brand, the more they will grow to know and trust it. Using your brand identity (both visually and written) repetitiously over time will help customers keep your business in mind when they need it.

However, be careful not to overdo it. Your posts should seem organic, helpful, and entertaining. Simply advertising your products and services on a daily basis won’t likely lead to the brand recognition you are looking for.

Woman leading a meeting

Present yourself as a knowledgeable industry leader

Social media is a fantastic space to present yourself as a leader of your field. Share tips, industry studies, etc. to not just sell yourself, but actively help your customers.

For more long form content you can share links to blog posts. Not only will you help your customers, but you will drive more traffic to your website through your blog. Which is a fantastic opportunity to encourage them to click around and see what you have to offer.

Busy road with traffic

Increase traffic to your website

We just touched on it, but driving website traffic is super important. Whether it is through blog posts, direct links to products you have on sale, etc.

Make sure you are tracking website traffic with Google Analytics so you can directly observe where your referral traffic is coming from. This will help you in determining which social media platforms are the most effective for your target demographic. Allowing you to focus on what works to best grow your business.

Shopping cart next to monitor

Generate leads and potential sales

The ultimate goal of any business is to make sales and generate revenue. Social media is a great way to communicate directly with your customers, or those considering becoming a customer. If you are running a sale or special event, you can provide links or details on those as well.

It’s a fantastic way to capture leads, and potentially generate more sales. Making social media a fantastic sales tool to help grow your business.

If you have yet to set up the necessary social media accounts, or you have neglected focusing on it, you may want to consider revisiting it again. With such a large segment of your customers likely on social media, it’s a tool that is worth paying attention to.

If you have any additional questions, need help getting started, or want to level up your social efforts - please let us know. We can be reached by email or you can call us toll-free at 1-800-232-3989.
